Abstract

UNICEF determined that there is a very high rate of malnutrition in children, in 2021 there are 6.8% (45 million) children experiencing wasting. UN statistics 2020 noted that more than 149 million (22%) toddlers worldwide are malnourished, of which 6.3 million are Indonesian toddlers. And in 2017 in Asahan district the number of toddlers reported was 77,452, consisting of 39,366 or 50.82% male toddlers and 38,086 or 49.17% female toddlers as many as 60,142 (77.65%) of whom had been weighed (D / S), the results of the weighing were recorded as many as 350 (0.58%) showed BGM. To find out how the mother's role in providing parenting to the toddler with the incidence of weight below the Red Line (BGM). Qualitative analytic with phenomenalogical design. The population was 10 mothers who had BGM toddlers in Suka Damai Village, Pulo Bandring Health Center Working Area, sample selection using Purposive Sampling with a sample size of 6 people. Data collection using primary and secondary data.It was found that the mother did not apply an appropriate diet for her child, namely the mother did not provide a varied food menu and the mother also did not apply proper parenting in maintaining personal hygiene in children, namely by not doing hand washing behavior before eating, and not maintaining environmental hygiene
