Abstract

Background: The imbalance of food intake with physical activity caused lack of movement with the risk of increasing body mass index. The higher the body mass index, the higher the impact on balance and an increased risk of falling. The good balance was very useful to achieve the efficient and effective body mobility and make daily activities easier. In addition to dynamic balance, the static balance was also distributed in the body balance as a whole. There were many activities of twelfth grade students in Islamic Boarding School of Darul Qur'an, especially sitting and standing activities. Hence, a good static balance was needed to support these activities. Objective: This study aimed to find out the relationship between body mass index and static balance among twelfth grade students in Islamic Boarding School of Darul Qur'an Deli Serdang. Method: The study design was observational analytic with cross-sectional approach. The determination of sample used the total sampling with a sample of 70 people. The measurement of body mass index was obtained from weight and height of the respondents and static balance was obtained from Standing Stork Test. Result: The result of Pearson correlation was p-value=0,000 (p<0,05). Conclusion: There was a relationship between body mass index and static balance among twelfth grade students in Islamic Boarding School of Darul Qur'an Deli Serdang.
