Abstract

The phenomenon of ageing population is a certainty that will be faced by the Indonesian nation, this can be used as a second demographic bonus for Indonesia but can also be a big problem if the productivity of the elderly is low. The problems today in terms of health, physical, economic, social and the number of elderly dependency in Indonesia and especially North Sumatra still show problems. If left unchecked, it will become a burden in the future. To overcome these problems as well as prepare for the future, strategic efforts are needed that can improve the quality of life of the elderly, of course by analyzing the determinants that affect the quality of life of the elderly. This study used a cross sectional design with the entire population of the elderly aged 60-64 years in areas near the center of the capital in North Sumatra, namely Medan and Deli Serdang. The sample was 268 respondents. Data analysis used a logistic regression test. All three variables have a significant influence on the dependent variables. The variables of the Elderly Posyandu (p=0.0001), the activeness of cadres (p=0.025), and the frequency of participating in the elderly posyandu (p=0.005) were significant to the quality of life of the elderly. Elderly Posyandu cadres must actively involve the elderly in preparing plans for elderly activities, as well as involve teenagers in cross-generational efforts in moving elderly posyandu.
