Penyuluhan tentang Obat Kumur dari Kulit Buah Nanas di RS Mitra Medika Bandar Klippa

Abstract

Oral and dental health is an integral part of overall health and has a significant impact on quality of life. Dental caries caused by infection with Streptococcus mutans is one of the major problems affecting oral health. This community service activity aimed to improve the knowledge, awareness, and skills of patients and their families at Mitra Medika Hospital Bandar Klippa in maintaining oral hygiene through the utilization of natural ingredients, particularly a mouthwash formulation containing ethanol extract of pineapple peel (Ananas comosus (L.) Merr.). The activity was conducted interactively through several stages, including preparation, interactive lectures, discussions, question-and-answer sessions, demonstrations of mouthwash use, and evaluation using pretests and posttests. The results showed a significant improvement in participants' knowledge regarding the importance of oral health, the role of antioxidant and antibacterial natural compounds derived from pineapple peel waste, and the proper and safe use of mouthwash. This promotive and preventive program proved effective in encouraging healthy behaviors for sustainable prevention of dental caries.
