Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of combining Ultrasound Therapy (UST) and Nerve Gliding Exercise (NGE) on reducing pain intensity in Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) patients at RSUD Kabupaten Karo. This quasi-experimental study with a one-group pretest-posttest design involved 16 respondents selected via purposive sampling. Pain intensity was measured using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) before and after a 4-week intervention (twice weekly). Paired Sample t-Test results revealed a significant reduction in mean pain scores from 7.12 (severe pain) to 3.06 (mild pain), with a mean difference of 4.06 (p = 0.001). The combined thermal and mechanical effects of UST with the neural mobility restoration of NGE effectively reduced inflammation and intraneural pressure. In conclusion, combining UST and NGE significantly decreases CTS pain intensity and is recommended as an evidence-based standard physiotherapy protocol.
