Abstract

The aging process triggers a decline in physiological function and the musculoskeletal system, resulting in limitations in the Activities of Daily Living (ADL) among older adults. This quantitative quasi-experimental study with a one-group pre-test and post-test design aimed to analyze the effect of Resistance Circuit Training (RCT) on ADL independence levels among elderly individuals at Gonting Mahe Public Health Center. A total of 36 older adults were selected using a purposive sampling technique. ADL independence levels were measured using the Katz Index before and after the RCT intervention, which was delivered across eight exercise sessions over one month. Prior to the intervention, the majority of respondents were classified as moderately dependent (83.3%) and mildly dependent (16.7%). Following the intervention, functional independence improved significantly, shifting to slightly dependent (55.6%), fully independent (25.0%), and mildly dependent (19.4%). Results from the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test revealed a statistically significant value of p = 0,000 (p < 0,05), demonstrating a significant effect of RCT on improving ADL scores. This study concludes that Resistance Circuit Training effectively enhances functional independence in older adults, highlighting the need for structured resistance programs using simple equipment in primary healthcare settings
